Looking AHEAD...

For the longest time, I have wanted to run Lake Merced, Daly City (a little less than 5 miles or if you cheat and take the bridge it is about 3.5). Not being athletic and with my work schedule I cancelled my membership to Bally’s many years ago and in my mind I kept psyching myself out… there is no way my out of shape body is going to make it around that lake. So just in case something happens to me or if I pass out, I am jogging with my cell phone. Well, on Christmas Eve, my boss let us out of the office early and I drove to Lake Merced. Hesitantly, I got out of my car and started with a slow walk, then a little faster and then I started really picking up the pace and jogged the entire lake in one-hour. Of course, the next day was Christmas and I did not make it out of bed as my legs were beyond sore. The crazy thing is that I did it again on New Year’s Eve!

What I did then and after was starting somewhere with the end in mind. I started slow and not worrying how long it would take me to get there (the end/my goal). I just knew I would finish & if I decided to give up I would have called for a taxi j/k!

We need to always have the end goal in mind and how WE all get there is up to us. As much as I walked slowly away from my car and looked back a couple of times, I then found myself focusing on moving forward. I have started on this journey of being a school board trustee back in 2006. Every day, every month and each year I set goals for myself, of course, subject to change. My goals keep me in line and I never lose focus of my end goal, in my role. That end goal is always what is best for the children/youth of South San Francisco.

I guess through this experience, each day I learn something new, each day I must push myself harder.

I will make back to Lake Merced soon.

Thank you to those who came out on December 14th to be apart of the re-organization of our school board & to see me take the oath of office. As I stood up there (with butterflies in my stomach) I stood proud to have earned the support of so many voters and our unions. I truly look forward to bringing not only a parent’s focus on the board, but also my high energy and my management expertise to improve the quality of education for our children.

A very special thank you to my husband Brian Normandy for his tremendous amount of patience, love, and understanding. To my children Thomas & Ariel you are my true inspiration. You are the reason I get up in the morning and work hard tirelessly for the things that I believe in. Thank you to my family for sharing this experience with me.

Dear Family & Friends,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for all your support during my campaign trail. What a journey it has been and will continue to be. History has been made as it has been years since a candidate/challenger has won a seat. In addition to our wonderfully diverse community I am excited to add diversity to our school board in so many ways. I hope this will be the start of something positive for future school board trustees.

I request you to join me this Thursday December 14^th as I will be sworn in (oath of office) followed by my first meeting as a trustee.

Time : 7:00pm

Location: Library Media Center , South San Francisco High School, 400 B Street, South San Francisco

In addition there will be a the reorganization of the board – meet our next School Board President and Vice President (this will be done through board election)
