DFAN's New Blog, "Progressive Nashville", needs YOUR Voice! - |
|
Democracy for America/Nashville is launching a new blog and we’re looking for writers.
Progressive Nashville is intended to be an advocate for government that puts people first. It’s not just about complaining about what’s wrong – but offering Progressive solutions on issues such as growth and development, schools, business, health care and more.
Writers who join our team will be free to express their thoughts, but our goal is to feature content that deals heavily with local issues. If you only want to complain about George Bush, this probably isn’t the blog for you. But if you want to speak out about things that affect your neighborhood or the metro area, this could be your new home.
The best way to help people understand how a more Progressive government can improve their lives is to tell them what we have to offer. That understanding will bring more support for Progressive officials and help us elect new Progressive candidates.
If you can write clearly, have strong opinions and are willing to dedicate yourself to writing about Progressive issues, I want to hear from you.
Write me at jim@democracyfortennessee.com and I’ll give you more details – and please let me know a little about what issues concern you most.
Thanks! |

Cool Event -- Cooler Candidates - |
Candidates Meet DFAN Members at Centennial Park
DFAN members turned out in style at Centennial Park to meet our endorsed candidates for Metro Council. Marisa Richmond and Gene Floyd, pictured left in a photo provided by Chris Sanders, were among those enjoying root beer floats and speeches by the candidates.
Those attending pledged to help our DFAN's candidates by canvassing, making phone calls, working in offices and even donating money to help the cause.
The event was a prelude to a morning of canvassing training on June 16, after which DFAN members hit the streets to ask voters to support the candidates and go to the polls Aug. 2. Another training and canvassing day will be held June 23.
David Briley, candidate for Mayor(left), and Shane Burkett, candidate in District 12, were among those in attendance.

Edwards visits Nashville - |
There have been a number of memorable moments on the stage of Nashville’s, Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry. A John Edwards campaign event Monday was no exception. Originally billed as a rally, the event was transformed following the mass shootings at Virginia Tech into an opportunity for community mourning. Edwards’ words were brief and focused on the tragedy and its survivors with the bulk of the program devoted to music of faith and hope. Campaigning was set aside for another day. “We know what an unspeakable, life-changing moment this is for these families and how, in this moment, it is hard to feel anything but overwhelming grief, much less the love and support around you,” Edwards told the crowd. “But the love and support is there. We pray that these families, these students, and the entire Virginia Tech community know that they are being embraced by a nation.” The program was closed by Vince Gill who left the greens to take the Ryman stage. Gill, still dressed in golf shorts and a sweater vest, was joined by actor-activist Ashley Judd and dozens of audience members to sing Amazing Grace. |
