Honey-do List
I am creating a honey-do list for the district while I meet our neighbors. These are the smaller housekeeping items that need to be fixed to make the quality of life in our neighborhoods better:
1. Fix the water fountain at Morgan Park (I know we are in drought in the Southeast but we have skipped spring this year and it is simply too hot not have water in a public park).
2. Fix the broken window at the Morgan Park House.
3. Fix the dangling rubber from the power line on 6th Avenue. If I can easily touch the wire without any reach with my towering height of 5 feet and 4 inches, imagine what a kid can do with a little curiosity.
Please let me know if you want to have anything put on the honey-do. My email is fredaplayer@gmail.com . |

Getting to Know You
Okay, I have a confession to make. I am falling in love with District 19. I have always loved this area that was the main reason I came right back after grad school. Every time I spend time in our community I always come home excited, giddy and fulfilled.
This past week I met some new people and spent quality time with new found neighbors. So far in this campaign, I’ve made the acquaintance of two women who have lived in our district for over forty years. Hopefully I will be introduced to a man that has lived in the district that long also. Listening to them talk about the district and the changes allowed my pride for the district to grow deeper. I hope as a community and as a neighborhood we will continue to listen to the wisdom and observations of these women. Their pride and hope in our community should be continued and shared to those who become our neighbors in the time to come. |

Memorial Day Update
(6.5.06) Here is my blog update about Memorial Day. Sorry for the delay, I have been very busy campaigning. This has been a great weekend overall. I know there were many of you who took weekend trips and had barbeques with friends and family. I know because quite of few of you weren’t at home when I came to your homes. I also smelled plenty of charcoal and meat on the grill. I hope all of you enjoyed the holiday weekend.
I want to take a moment to recognize the Memorial Day holiday. The majority of us took many took a moment to pause to think about of all of the men and women who are fighting in Iraq. I know that I am thankful and blessed that there are men and women who are defending our country. Without them, I would not have the privilege of running for office. Many of us know of at least one person who is in Iraq, or who has come back from Iraq. No matter what you think about the war, let us continue to give the troops our heart-felt support so they know they are loved and appreciated for putting their lives in harm’s way for this great country in which we are so blessed to live.

URA & Germantown Neighborhood Meetings
(5.21.07) Today I was double booked. I went to the URA's (Urban Residents Association) monthly meeting. It was a chance for me to catch up with my downtown neighbors. They are always a lively bunch of people. Each time I go, I always meet at least one new person to call my neighbor.
I also went to the Salemtown Neighborhood Association meeting. They are very warm and inviting group of people. I loved the fact that they are working together and tracking the problems of the neighnorhood and the surrounding area. I also loved the fact they are cooperative and open to involving the adjoining neighborhoods with their activities. There is always strength in numbers!!! |
