Cities all across North Dakota have been using a property tax gimmick called Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to funnel money into their downtown areas to benefit businesses at the cost of every other property taxpayer. It's supposed to be used to redevelop slum and blight, but now it's just another subsidy to developers and some well-connected property owners.

Keep in mind, this is a scheme that allows properties like the Radisson in downtown Bismarck to pay $0 towards schools, parks, and other essential government services.

We need your help! The ND Senate Finance and Taxation Committee is debating this issue on Wednesday, January 5th. Tell them you want TIF reformed or repealed.

Dear Finance and Taxation Committee Member:

Tax increment financing is a property tax gimmick that benefits a few, well-connected property owners and developers at the expense of all other property owners.

If you are committed to reining in property taxes, you'll consider eliminating tax increment financing.

I urge you to reform or repeal tax increment financing and oppose the efforts of the League of Cities and other interest groups to undermine reform.
