Cities all across North Dakota have been using a property tax gimmick called Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to funnel money into their downtown areas to benefit businesses at the cost of every other property taxpayer. It's supposed to be used to redevelop slum and blight, but now it's just another subsidy to developers and some well-connected property owners.
Keep in mind, this is a scheme that allows properties like the Radisson in downtown Bismarck to pay $0 towards schools, parks, and other essential government services.
We need your help! The ND Senate Finance and Taxation Committee is debating this issue on Wednesday, January 5th. Tell them you want TIF reformed or repealed. |
