The Red Clay Democrats was founded in 2001 by a small but energetic group determined to get involved and make a difference in Georgia politics. Many had been actively involved in politics in college but lacked a viable outlet for their participation as they began their careers. Most had outgrown the younger political organizations, but were not far enough into their careers to participate at the higher levels of fundraising. Each member of this group believed that active participation was the best avenue to positively influence their own life while at the same time contributing to the greater good of all Georgians. Each member had skills and energy they wanted to put to active use, but did not know how they could best make a difference. The goal became to create an organization that would afford like-minded and committed individuals with an outlet for their political energy and their Democratic vision for Georgia. The group became the founders of the Red Clay Democrats.
The Red Clay Founders set the bar high for the organization at its very inception. For a foundational event, Red Clay organized a very successful event in October of 2001 that raised over $25,000 for the Democratic Party of Georgia and was attended by then Governor Roy Barnes, Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor, Secretary of State Cox, Attorney General Baker, and a full house of enthusiastic Democrats of Georgia. Since then, Red Clay has grown and continues to make a difference in Georgia politics. We invite you to become a member and get involved.
