Welcome to the Washington County Democratic Party website!

Your help is extremely necessary if Senators Obama and Biden are to become our next President and Vice-President!  We understand that we cannot take another four years of Bush/Cheney policies, but we need volunteers to interact with registered voters who have not voted recently as well as undecided voters.

Our specific volunteer needs are as follows:

  • Phone Bank Volunteers: Calling committed Democrats and confirming their interest and support for Obama/Biden. Also contacting Democrats and notifying them of upcoming events.
  • Volunteer Canvassers: Walk throughout targeted neighborhoods and register voters as well as encourage families to vote.

There are certain precincts in Washington County that Democrats have traditionally won.  And since we know that voter turnout is crucial to an Obama/Biden victory, we have a responsibility to engage in voter contact!  Please take some time to volunteer in one or both of these opportunities.

The Washington County Democratic  Party Headquarters is located at the DEMOCRAT RESOURCE CENTER:

2250 North Roan Street
(In The Colonial Center near Hooters Restaurant)
Johnson City, TN 37601
Phone: (423) 282-2081
Fax: (423) 283-7600
Monday - Friday 10 AM - 6 PM
Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM

Washington County Democratic Party
PRECINCT PICNICS

We need a volunteer from each precinct to host the picnic. Hosts supply beverages such as coffee, tea and water at their home or a location in the precinct. Guests are asked to bring a dessert with paper plates and cutlery. The following precincts will have picnics:

  • HENRY JOHNSON
  • JONESBOROUGH INSIDE

If your precinct is identified, please call the Democratic Resource Center to receive host contact information.  EVEN IF YOUR PRECINCT IS NOT IDENTIFIED, YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND A PICNIC IN ANOTHER PRECINCT.

Precinct Picnics will take place on Sunday, September 21 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Call Adam Dickson, Chair, at 676-5547 or Jim Austin, Treasurer, at 202-1655 for more information.

MAKE A DONATION TO THE WASHINGTON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Dear Washington County Democrats,

The Bush Presidency proudly promoted the slogan of “compassionate conservatism” – a concept utilizing traditional Republican policies while claiming to understand the condition of ordinary working Americans.

For eight years Americans certainly saw traditional Republican policies implemented.  Tax cuts were given to the wealthiest Americans, opportunities were extended to Halliburton – a company whose CEO was also the Vice-President – to conduct projects in Iraq, and a failed education policy left many American children behind in learning and achievement.

What Americans did not see during the Bush Presidency was the idea of understanding the condition of ordinary working Americans.  Working families are feeling the effects of this lack of understanding as the cost of their food and fuel continue to increase and their homes go into foreclosure.  As American’s domestic woes deepen, our reputation throughout the world has suffered due to President Bush’s inability to communicate and reach consensus with our foreign neighbors.

It is clear that a unified Democratic Party is necessary in the 2008 elections.  We have a great opportunity to win the presidency, a U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee, and the 1st Congressional district race if we will commit our time and finances to rallying other Democrats to vote in August and November.

Your financial contribution will help the local Democratic Party set up a local headquarters for our presidential candidate as well as support future Democratic candidates who run for local or state office. Please act now by sending your contribution to the following address:

Washington County Democratic Party

2250 North Roan Street

Johnson City, TN 37601

Because our area tends to vote predominately Republican, we need the support of every Washington countian who shares Democratic values.

Chair, Washington County Democratic Party Americans truly cannot afford a third Bush term – economically or emotionally.  Please show your support for Democratic Party values by making a donation and by volunteering your time.

Sincerely,

Adam G. Dickson

Chair, Washington County Democratic Party

Disappointing Contributions

The Democratic Party of Washington County sent approximately 2,500 letters to citizens of Washington County who had voted for a Democrat in a primary election. The letter requested contributions to fund and publicize party events. Results as of today are disappointing. We have received 6 responses with contributions totaling $350. Although I am grateful for these donations, I feel we are not fulfilling our financial potential. Donations are budgeted toward local events  that communicate our message while bringing together the people of Washington County  Please give to the Democratic Party of Washington County. Contributions may be sent to 2250 N. Roan St. Johnson City, TN 37601.
Best Regards,
Jim Austin, Treasurer

The Need to Unite!

Friends and Fellow Democrats:

We all should be excited after the arousing convention in Denver!  I think this convention is one of the best that the party has ever seen.  Now that we have our candidate and vice-presidential candidate, it is time for us to unite and seize the White House and our position as a nation with moral strength.
